About the project
The Context
Significant assemblages of human remains are constantly retrieved from archaeological excavations, offering valuable insights into past populations.. Yet their scientific study is significantly heterogeneous, only a proportionately limited number of them become the subject of interdisciplinary research and systematic study. An equally small percentage of archaeological human remains is interpreted by appropriate information at archaeological museums, as museums lack tools to present complex bioarchaeological evidence.
The EXCALIBUR project, aligned with the European Cloud for Cultural Heritage (ECCCH), proposes a holistic framework for enhanced study, conservation, and restoration of cultural heritage, based on digital twin technologies. It focuses on burial sites, excavation, artefacts, and human remains.
The project creates innovative, affordable, and easy-to-use tools to protect and restore heritage, co-designing solutions with experts and sharing them through the ECCCH platform for global impact.
